Microtubules are an important component of the cytoskeleton and are present in all mammalian cells. It is composed of alpha tubulin and beta tubulin with a molecular weight of approximately 55kD, and exists in the form of alpha beta heterodimers. The expression level of β-Tubulin protein is relatively constant and is often used as an internal reference for calibration systems in Western Blot detection.
