Description
Lysozyme, also known as muramidase, is an alkaline enzyme that can hydrolyze polysaccharides in pathogenic bacteria. It breaks down the β-1,4-glycosidic bond between N-acetyl muramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in the cell wall, causing insoluble polysaccharides to break down into soluble glycopeptides, leading to cell wall rupture and the release of contents, resulting in bacterial dissolution.
Lysozyme solution (50mg/ml) is composed of lysozyme and TRIS, with a pH value of about 8.0. It is commonly used to dissolve cell walls for extracting plasmid DNA
